The CET exam is creating a new hype among graduates these days. We are pretty sure that one question does arise in their young minds, “Which exam should I go for, CAT or CET?” Should it be the widely-known CAT? Or is the CET worth a try? So with the help of this blog, we are trying to make it a little easy for you to compare and decide which exam is the most suitable for you.
CAT exam (Common Admission Test) is a computer-based test held every year and conducted by different IIMs. CAT scorecard is a must for admissions into one of the prestigious management colleges all over India (except for those colleges which conduct different entrance exams). On the other hand, the DTE, Maharashtra conducts the CET exam (or MHCET i.e. Maharashtra Common Entrance Test). It is also a computer-based entrance test and the scorecard of MHCET is valid for management courses but in Maharashtra.
The 2 major differences between CAT and CET exam are as follows-
- CAT exam consists of 100 questions which are needed to be attempted in the duration of three hours whereas CET exam consist of 200 questions in all and are asked to be attempted within the duration of 150 minutes.
- The CAT consists of questions with 1/3 negative marking whereas CET exam has no negative mark for incorrect answers.
On the other hand, the major similarities between the 2 are:
- CAT exam consists of three sections: Verbal Ability, Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Ability. With a bit of a twist, CET exam consist of two sections: Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension, and Quantitative Aptitude & Logical Reasoning.
- The eligibility criteria for both CAT and CET exam is that candidate applying for the exam must hold a Bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks. Candidates in the final year of Bachelor’s degree can also apply for any of the two exams.
CAT or CET–Opportunities
Both the exams possess values in their own way and it is also true from which no one can deny that CAT is a tougher exam than CET. Hundreds of MBA colleges in India such as IITs and FMS Delhi apart from IIMs accept the CAT scorecard. Whereas only B-schools of Maharashtra accept the CET scorecard. Other than this nearly 4 lakhs student appeared for CET exam in the year 2018 and up to 2.5 lakhs students appeared in CAT exam. Hence, these statistics show that despite being tough to crack, CAT exam possess more opportunities than the CET exam.
Conclusion
It depends solely on the candidate. Whether he or she wants to make it top MBA colleges of Maharashtra or admission in other B-schools or IIMs.
Don’t worry, we are making it simpler for you to understand. Both the exams are for students who want to pursue MBA programs.
