About GATE:

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is an all – India examination conducted by IISc and seven IITs. It’s being conducted by the national co-ordination Board, GATE, Department of higher education, Ministry of human resource development, Govt of India. The results of this examination is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs in Indian higher education institutes, with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other government agencies. The GATE exam results are also being used by the government companies which help them recruit various candidates for engineering. It is one amongst the competitive examinations in India.

In the current circumstances, we know that there is a huge mass of B.E/B.Tech graduates passing out. So to stand different in a crowd you must be holding something extra in your hands, else you will simply loose yourself in the crowd. Also, due to this large number of emerging universities and colleges, it is quite a difficult task to evaluate the qualified ones. So the only solution to this problem of measuring and examining the quality of a student is the GATE exam. Of course, there are a lot of misconceptions regarding GATE among the students that it is completely meant ME/MTech, which finally ends in a teaching career.

The current scenario portrays the advantages regarding GATE exam will be worthy of it. Many public sector undertakings such as BHEL, IOC,NTPC,BARC etc (around 217 PSU’s in number) are using GATE score for selecting candidates for their organizations. Those who quality the GATE exam are provided with a stipend of Rs.8000 per month during their M.Tech course. Better remuneration is offered for students of M.Tech/ME as compared to those pursuing B.tech/BE.A good gate rank assures a good job. After joining IIT and IIScone can look at a salary package ranging from Rs. 7 lakh to 30 lakh per annum, depending upon specialization and performance.

GATE also gives you a chance when it comes to joining reputed companies as well as off campus recruitment. If your dream of IIT was far, GATE provides you a better opportunity to fulfill your IIT dreams. GATE is also an eligibility factor for the award of Junior Research Fellowship in CSIR laboratories. MTech degree is a must for those who are interested in research positions in R & D centers. Apart from all these Gates always place you one step ahead from others in all aspects.

The GATE exam is being conducted through the constitution of eight zones. The zones and the corresponding administrative institutes are:

Purpose of GATE exam:

The ultimate purpose of GATE examination is to identify meritorious and talented candidates for admission to post graduate programmes in various fields of science and technology at the national level. Also to motivate and guide them about the advanced possibilities and applications in their area of interest which can serve as benchmark for normalization of under graduate engineering education in the country.

 

NOTE:

The one who is pursuing any Post graduation or already obtained a degree higher than that mentioned in the above table, then the candidate can choose the relevant minimum required qualifying degree while filling the application form.
